Bishop England's Warren named Player of the Year

Bishop England senior Anna Warren has been named the S.C. Coaches Association for Women’s Sports Class AAA volleyball Player of the Year. Warren led Class AAA with 334 total kills at outside hitter, while helping Bishop England to its 18th consecutive state championship this season. She also finished second in all of AAA with 358 digs and scored 34 aces. “I can’t say enough about how important she is to not only our offense but our defense,” Bishop England coach Cindy Baggott said. “She has the ability to really control things when she wants to.” Warren did some of her best work late, averaging better than 17 kills through the Bishops’ five postseason matches, a significant uptick from her season average of 9.5 per match. She led all players will 22 kills in the state championship match against Powdersville, including six in the deciding fifth set to help the Bishops rally back from a two-set deficit. “Anna showed up and started putting some balls away, showing what she’s capable of,” Baggott said. “You could kind of feel the shift.” Dorman’s Thayer Hall was named the AAAAA Player of the Year. Gracie Davis of Myrtle Beach earned AAAA honors. St. Joseph’s Allison Whitten was named the top player in AA, while Branchville’s Madison Leggette was picked as Class A’s best.
